Big Transition

We had a big transition last week at the Herr home.  We moved Joshua to a big boy bed!  Obviously we were in no big rush to do this since we waited until after he turned three.  That boy seriously loves his crib and would probably be okay with sleeping in it until he is 5 if we let him.  He has actually never climbed out of his crib though he did fall out once trying to reach for something.  After that any time I saw him trying to climb out I reminded him of the time he fell out and how it hurt.  He has however, been climbing in it to put himself to bed for a while now.

When he wakes in the mornings and from nap he will just play and play until we go get him.  I enjoy having him confined ;)

He was very excited to go pick up his new bed.  When we told him that day that that nap was going to be the last time he slept in his crib and that he was going to start sleeping a big boy bed he was totally on board.

Last nap in his crib...complete with a fort of course.

He had so much fun climbing up on the mattress and then sliding down.

First night in his big boy bed.

He was all excited until it was time to get tucked in.  He all of a sudden became hesitant saying, "I want to wait until I'm older."  So I laid with him for a few minutes talking about how fun it is to have a big kid and listing all his friends who sleep in big kids beds.  When I listed two certain friends  he said, "Last time when we were at Rhyolite park I looked and they weren't big!" Trying to convince me that they didn't sleep in big boy beds.  After I laid with him daddy came back in the room and we tucked him in and he was absolutely fine.

Around 10 pm Daniel heard a thud and went in to check on him.  He fell out of bed but slept right through it.  Silly boy rolled right over the pool noodle we put under his sheet.  Daniel scooped him up and laid him back in bed without him waking up.

We told him to stay in bed until we came to get him in the morning.  When we went in to get him this is how we found him, just singing Jake and the Neverland Pirates waiting patiently for us to come in and get him.  We found him in this same position after his nap in his big boy bed too.

He did keep him self busy creating this "train."

He was full of stories of his night when he woke in the morning.  He told us, "I fell off the bed and Poor Dog said, 'hey are you going to come back up here?'"  He was so animated telling his stories.

He loves his new bed and so far we haven't had any major issues and no more falling off the bed :)  He looks so tiny in his full size bed and it is just another reminder of how fast my boy is growing up.
