Joshua's 5th b-day

Happy 5th b-day Joshua,

You are the one who first made me a mom.  You are the perfect first born child.  So mature, dependable and helpful.

You are an incredibly bright child.  You love to learn and it comes so easy to you.  You are so curious.  One of the things that impresses us most about your learning style is the way your infer things and figure out the correct answer based on existing knowledge.  Amazing!

You are mature and wise beyond your years.  You are trust worthy and have a lot of privileges because of this.  You are a big help and always come through when I need you the most.

You are witty and clever always coming up with ingenious ideas.

Right now you like to build and create, you like dinosaurs, going on snake hunts, math, writing in notebooks, being read to, swimming, sweets, and wrestling.  Your favorite shows are Wild Kratts, Curious George, Magic School Bus, Lion Guard, but you always happily watch the shows Kayla watches too.

God has great big plans for you and we are loving watching them unfold right before our eyes.

We love you Flash!

Love,

Mommy and Daddy

Sweet Kayla decorating his present with stickers.

A few days before his b-day we took him to Panera where he gets what he calls, "the yummy mac and cheese."

So excited about his bag of quarters.  He has been collecting and saving quarters.
So excited to get a bag of quarters.

Then we met Omah, Papa, Aunt Anna, Uncle Andrew, Mimi and Aunt Sydney a Smart Cow for dessert.  Kayla was so sweet watching him open his presents.  She would say stuff like, "Oh cool Joshua.  I like that."

When we got home he counted all his quarters and said, "I have 41, no
45 because of this dollar."  Math whiz!

The morning of his b-day we had b-day pancakes with sprinkles of course.

Opening presents from Mom and Dad.

Dinosaurs...which he also happened to get from pretty
much all his friends too.  They know him well.

Late afternoon Joshua's friends came over for pizza and a movie night.  All the kids wore their pj's and brought their sleeping bags.  Joshua was so excited for this party for such a long time.
Levi testing out Jacklyn's sleeping bag.

Joshua's dinosaur cake, as requested.

Picture taken by a 6 year old ;)

Shortly after singing happy b-day Kayla went up to Daniel with part of the candle in her mouth which she took a bite of.  As I was looking through the b-day pictures I saw the progression.  Look closely at Kayla in these next few pictures.
She spots the candle.

She lights up and decided it would be a good idea to take a taste.

She reaches for the candle.

And finally she takes a taste.

HEHE!

We love Joshua....you're my special boy!

Brooke's Graduation

My little sister, Brooke gradated this month.  How surreal it is that this sweet, little girl who use to walk into my room late at night to hang out with me has completed high school.  Seems like just yesterday she was running towards me with arms wide open squealing, "sissy!" when I would come home from work.

When I heard the news at 13 years old that I was going to have a little sibling, I could have never imagined then how this new baby would forever mark my heart.  Brooke is very dear to me and holds a special place in my heart.  I adore this girl so much.  She is easy going, so much fun to be around, wise, witty, and tender.

I mean seriously, look at that natural beauty.
(This is a picture from her slide show I put together.)

The night before graduation was her honors ceremony.

Our sister Amy flew in from California.

We are so proud of her and her hard work but y'all, this ceremony was 3 hours long.  We were about to order a pizza.

We kept ourselves entertained with with selfies and SnapChat.

Graduation Day!!!!  I graduated from this same high school.

Here is what Levi thought about the graduation.

My favorite picture, fell asleep with his hand in his snack cup.

There's our graduate!

Mom with all 4 of her girls.

Seems like just yesterday she was calling him "Dan the Man."

Brooke and Paulete.  A neighbor girl that I introduced her to
when they were about 4 years old.  They were best friends
 for many years after that.

Auntie Amy and her babies.

Party time!

April 2016

This is exactly how I am feeling.  I can't believe it is time for me to blog about April...didn't I just blog about March?

Joshua
*Now that he is starting to draw pictures of actual things and I am having a hard time not saving every little piece of artwork.  Especially the rainbows and flowers he makes for me.
*He is really liking addition right now and he is fast at coming up with the right answer.  One time while quizzing him, just for fun we asked him what 22+22= and without hesitation he answered, "24."  We were stunned since we were only doing sums of 10 at the time.  When I asked how he knew that he told me, "I know that 2+2= 4."  He seriously knows so many strategies for different things without even being taught.  He figures things out and then can explain them.
*Joshua pointed out the word "on" and told me, "That spells on and no."  Genius, he can read backwards too!
*Something that both J and K do is any time I am out of their site in a store for more than 1.5 encodes they both start calling out, "Mommy, I'm lost."
*Something that warms my heart so much is when I hear Joshua tell Kayla she looks pretty.

Kayla
*She has mastered her opposites and loves to be quizzed on them.
*Her speech is just too cute with her little East Coast twang.  I don't know comes out, "I na know."  And lets not forget that when she gets excited she talks in the highest pitch possible.  We are talking hurt your ears, shatter the windows high.
*She randomly tells those around her, "I love you."
*When I spend one on one time with her I am always amazed at how talkative she is.  It is like she is on a sugar high without the sugar.
*She is talkative to people she doesn't know when we are out and about.  She likes to just start talking to adults at the park telling them that Levi is her brother, she has a polar bear, pointing me out "that's my mommy," tell them what color our stroller is...she will walk up to people and say, "I'm Kayla."
*If you know Daniel and me well you know we both have a major sweet tooth and so does Joshua who inhales his sweets like there is no tomorrow.  If you want to get to that boys heart you give him sugar.  Kayla on the other hand doesn't seem to have inherited that trait.  Don't get me wrong, she likes her treats but she has been known to take a bite of a piece of candy and then just hold on to it for a bit, then gives it to me to eat for later and eventually forgets about it.  Sometimes she will eat dessert and then ask for more dinner.
*In an effort to get out of being disciplined she so sweetly tells me before I give the consequence, "I will understand."

Levi:
*One of Levi's most exciting things is when the doorbell rings.  He can't get to the door fast enough.
*He loves, and I mean LOVES playing outside.  When we go in the garage he immediately starts pointing to his head (his signal for I need my helmet on).
*Because of Kayla's special polar bear he now refers to all lovies as a bear.  Kayla gave him her special baby one morning and he showed it to me and said, "Bear."  He also calls his monkey a bear. A few times when he has gotten hurt he has cried out for bear his monkey) which is what Kayla does.
*He loves anything with wheels.
*He really likes to get down on the ground and study how things work.
*Loves playing in the basement and will stand at the door begging, "bay-meh."
*When he dos something he sometimes says, "I did it."
*He responds a lot to us in grunts.
*He has affectionately been nicknamed Levie by his big sister.
*When I give him a kiss he wipes it off with his shirt and he thinks it is hilarious.  I have no idea where he learned that.  #3rdchildgoofball
*If anything is out of place he will tell you by saying, "Uh-oh."  Daniel is in the process of tiling our downstairs bathroom and putting in new trim.  One morning Levi discovered trim laying on the kitchen floor ready to be installed and he kept saying, "Uh-oh, Joshua." Over and over and I couldn't tell if he was telling Joshua about it or blaming Joshua.
*We are pretty certain he is a lefty.  How is it possible that 2/3 of my kids are left handed?
*I am getting asked more and more if Levi and Kayla are twins.

Snow day donut day

Annual Kite Festival

My favorite part of the kite festival is when we were packing up to leave and Joshua and I noticed a boy, probably about 2.5 or 3, wailing because his kite broke so Joshua gave him his kite.

After the kite Festival.  Levi was out within seconds of getting loaded up.

Joshua stuck said, "Levi will you help me when you're older?  I am going to be here a while."

 Celebrating Sydney and my birthday.

15, 17 and 32 years old and we still can't take a serious picture for mom.

Sydney and me showing off our self portrait Brooke drew for us.

Can't believe these are the same girls.  Time flies.

Selfies with the Selfie Queen (her not me :))

Celebrating my b-day at Omah and Papa's house with a cookie cake that the kids made for me.  Look at those two kiddies eyeing the cake.

Family outing to the Chocolate Factory.

Playing in the stream behind out house.

Woman's Spring Tea at church.  I was so excited to take Kayla this year and she was just as excited to attend.  Love that I have a sweet girl to experience these fun things with.

Who is that photo bomber?

She brought her very own tea cup.

After the tea she came home, took off all her clothes and put on a pirate bandana.

Mommy and Kayla had a special date at the Children's Museum.  Of course her favorite part was playing in the market/kitchen.

Making a bubble...

...now tasting it.

Daddy and Joshua had a dudes hangout.  They went to a museum that had a really great dinosaur exhibit.  Joshua could not believe how big dinosaurs really were.

As excited as he was to go to the museum I think that they were both more excited to eat hamburgers afterwards.

Dental check up.  J did just fine a always.  Kayla, well she improved a lot.  She did great for the hygienist but by the time the dentist came in to do the exam she was done and just screamed while he checked her teeth.

Cooking with snow.  J told me their restaurant is called, "Treat Makers."  They only have sweets and you don't get a tummy ache so you can eat as much as you'd like.

Bet you cant do this with your cherry tomatoes.

They love playing GO Fish.

Getting dressed for the day.

We saw Mimi at the grocery store and she gave Levi his first Oreo.

Spring Storm.  Omah and Papa's deck.

Snuggly boy.

Joshua's water tank system.

His dinosaur scene.  If you look closely you can see a very detailed story line.

Wait, maybe I am the Selfie Queen after all.  :)

Playing hot potato with a snake with neighborhood buddies.

I knew Kayla's light was green after a nap and I heard her come out of her room but when she wasn't coming downstairs I went to check on her and here is where I found her.  She woke her big bro up but he didn't mind.

Notice my towel?  He got a little tummy bug.  Thankfully it didn't last long.

But still smiley.

This picture just captures Levi perfectly.  He is just so silly and chill.

Can always be found with a car in his hands...

...or 2.

During a walk he kept checking out the stroller wheels.  He would look over one side, then the other, then get a view over the front and then the back.

I may or may not have put cooked spaghetti noodles on the kitchen floor and told my kids to pretend they were birds hunting worms in order to buy some time for me to work on Kayla's b-day cake.
