Happy First Father's Day, Daniel

Joshua really does have the best Daddy in the world and I have the most amazing husband in the world!  From day one Daniel has really taken to Fatherhood like a pro!  He really has surpassed my highest expectations!  He is extremely patient with Joshua, has just the right touch, and adores him dearly!
He has also been so patient and loving with this worn out, exhausted, dramatic, hormonal Mama!  He helps keep the house clean, does middle of the night diaper duty (have I mentioned before that I did not change a single diaper until Joshua was about 5 or 6 days old?), gets J back to sleep when he wakes up in the middle of the night, gives me endless prayers and encouragement, makes sure I am getting naps and taking time to myself in the evenings and weekends and the list goes on and on.  On the weekends and evenings all I do is nurse Joshua and play with him while Daddy tends to the less fun things like diapers and calming a fussy baby.  He does all of this and goes to work to provide for us and school two nights a week.
Daniel, you are one heck of a Dad and Joshua is SO blessed to be your son!  I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you be a Dad!  I look forward to many years of watching you two bond and do Father-Son activities!

A few things I said I would never do

Before I became a Mom there was a list of things I would NEVER do.  I hate to admit it but I even judged some parents for doing some of the things on my “Never will I do that" list.  But sure enough once I had Joshua, my whole outlook changed and I realize that for the first few weeks of his life I am in survival mode and I will do whatever it takes.
Here are just a few things that I gave into that I said I would NEVER do as a Mom.

I have seen people put these signs on their doorbell and I thought “How silly.  I am going to teach my child to sleep through anything.”  That was until I was given a child who is a champion sleep fighter and who sleeps very lightly.  I cannot take any chances of someone ringing the doorbell right as he is falling asleep.

We just started using the radio to play white noise during naps.  We have found that white noise really does help our little guy sleep longer.  It does make sense since that is what they heard in the womb nonstop.
Ah the pacifier.  Now, I was totally against a pacifier for a while.  However, in learning about the infants need to suck I started coming around on the pacifier but he would not be given one until a few weeks after birth.  Well, we gave him one in the hospital!  He would want to suck but wasn’t hungry.  This saved me from being the human pacifier.  We don’t have to use it a whole lot but when we do, boy it is so nice!
I have joined the Mommy club of “doing what it takes to keep sane.”  After all, as my FIL told me, “You are only a perfect parent until you have kids.”  How true is that?
So he may rely on music to fall asleep the rest of his life.  The world will keep on spinning.  Besides, it’s not like that is asked on a college application.

More Bath Time Fun

Joshua had his first real bath in the bath tub today.  He seemed to really like just hanging out in the water.  I wonder if it reminded him of his former home?

Sportin’ the Cloth Diaper

My umbilical cord fell out today so now I can where my cloth diapers!  They make my bottom look a little poofy but they will save my Mommy and Daddy a lot of money!  Plus, Mommy says they look cute on me.

Joshua's First Bath

He didn't really care too much for being naked, cold and wet.

AHHH, that's better!
