Kayla's 5 Month Update

Oh my sweet Kayla girl, you are growing up fast.  Too fast!  I say it every month but you are just as sweet and content as could be.  Last week you had a couple off days where you weren't sleeping well.  Maybe it was teething or you were working on mastering a skill, I am not quite sure but even though you weren't getting all he sleep you needed you were still so peaceful.

Here is what you are doing at 5 months old...

*You are laughing more and more.

*Before I lay you down to sleep at night and during naps I sing you a short song and sometimes when I start singing you lay your head on my shoulders.  Sweetest thing ever!

*You  seriously adore your big brother!  You smile almost every time he comes into your line of sight.  One night while I was nursing you during your night feeding you just kept looking at the door.  I really think you were looking for Joshua.  When Joshua hugs you almost always grab his head like you are pulling him closer to you.   He loves you just as much!  He loves to give you snuggles, give you toys, hear you talk and he really likes when you grab hold of his finger.  He likes it when I tell him that he has to protect you and keep you safe and help you at the park when you get older.  I just love watching you two interact.

*You take 3 naps a day, nurse 4 times during the day and 1 time during the night/early early am then go right back to sleep and you go to bed for the night at 6:30pm.

*Recently you have decided that you want your milk straight from the source and not a bottle.  You get so offended when someone tries to give you a bottle.

*Sometimes during tummy time you do what we call the inch worm.  You bring your knees to your chest and raise your bottom in the air and slowly but surely your inch your way around.

Here are some pictures from this past month...
Your doctors appointment was during nap time.  It was no fun having to be woken up to get shots!

You like to try and sit up while in the bath. That or you just think bath time is a good time to work on your abs.  :)

Joshua likes when you lay on the floor and watch him play.  He is so good about sharing his toys with you and asking before he takes one away from you.
You swiped the blue block when he wasn't looking.

Taking a dip in the pool with Joshua.

Aunt Diane gave you this stroller to paly with once you are a little older and of course Joshua had to test it out before I put it away.  He thought it was great pushing you around in it.

You still enjoy it when I read to you.  You are starting to grab at the pages.

I told Joshua that Kayla was going to start eating food soon...guess he figured she needed a few spoons to do that.

Your little legs were starting to get stuck between the crib slats so I lined the outside of your crib with card board boxes.  A little ghetto? Maybe but it works and it is only temporary ;)

This picture cracks me up.  The insert was put in the wrong way in the picture on the right.

You roll all over the place.  You start out at one end of the room and go until the furniture stops you.

In the mornings I get you up and bring you into my bed to nurse.  After we nurse we have some quality one on one time snuggling and talking then I lay you in my bed and go get Joshua up.  The first thing he does is go into my room to look for you.  When you see him you get the biggest smile on your face and you start kicking your feet.

Happy baby!

Such a sweet girl.  We love you so much!

My Almost Thumb Sucker

Up until now Kayla has been a finger sucker but the last month she has been sucking more and more on her thumb.  Well, she actually chews on it more than sucks.  She still sucks her fingers but is really trying to find that thumb.

I think thumb sucking is so sweet.

"Mom, stop taking my picture and let me chew on my thumb in peace, would ya?!"

Fun at the Fair

Several weekends ago we took Joshua to a local rodeo and he had so much fun watching the horses.

After the rodeo Joshua played on the playground for a wile.

Getting ready to go down the big slide with Daddy.

A week later the county fair and rodeo came to town.

On Thursday Omah and Papa took Joshua to see all the animals at the fair.

Then on Saturday Omah and Papa took Joshua to the Fair Parade and he had a blast.

Later that weekend we took Joshua to the fair to look at the animals again but we got there right as they were closing up shop...bummer.  We we walked around the fair grounds, saw some horses and played on the playground again.

My cowboys!

Baby girl was worn out from all the fun.

Looking forward to doing it again next year!

Joshua's First Real Ice Cream Cone

Up until recently Joshua has never really had real ice cream. He has had a bite or two of Mommy or Daddy's and Omah makes him healthy, all natural, no sugar added fruit ice cream cones but he has never had real ice cream all to himself...that is until now.

The first thing he said was, "Like at Omah and Papa's house."  Then he said, "'BBUURRR!' Papa does!"

He loved it!

There's no turning back now :)

Joshua the Monkey

Joshua is very into climbing and swinging on anything and everything these days.

He went through a phase where he would ask to climb every tree he saw.

Excuse the diaper, this was first thing in the am and hadn't had a diaper change yet...obviously.

He pulls our the kitchen chairs out and says, "Watch me swing."

It's Potty Time!

Potty Training has officially begun in the Herr home.

A couple Fridays ago we took Joshua to the store to pick out some big boy underwear and then started potty training the next morning.

"HHMM, these ones look good."

"Buzz or Mickey?"  Tough call.

Paying for his big boy underwear.

His final decision was Thomas the Train and I must say that I am absolutely shocked that he didn't go with Mickey Mouse.

He was so excited!  On the way home he opened the package and took out each pair one by one to look at all the different designs and then he set them all in a pile on his lap.

He couldn't wait to put them on.

See, I told you he was excited!

Day one in big boy underwear.

Watching a potty time video with Daddy on day one.

The first three days were the toughest.  It felt a lot like having a puppy, HA!  With that said he actually did really well having only 1-2 accidents a day for the first 3 days.  The first day he had an accident and he said, "Thomas is crying."  HA-HA!

Once we found our groove it got much easier.  He now goes potty almost right when I put him on the toilet.  Day 4 is when he really started to pick it up and started going all day without any accidents.  It has been over a week since he has had an accident!

I like when Daniel or I use the bathroom he tells us, "you get a treat Mommy/Daddy."

Adding a sticker to his sticker chart.

Doing the potty dance to celebrate that he just peed on the toilet.

He is in underwear full time with the exception of his three hour nap and bedtime.  When he gets up from nap one of the first things he asks to do is to put on underwear.

I was really nervous to take him out in public the first few times but he has done great and has even worn his big boy underwear to the church nursery.  We have been out several times and he uses public restrooms without any issues and hasn't had an accident while we have been out and about.  YAY Joshua!

I was really dreading potty training but Daniel and I have been pleasantly surprised at how well he has and how fast he picked it up.

I love that little toosh!
