Fall, Thanksgiving and everything in between

Here is an update on what we have been up to the last couple of months.

The Pumpkin Patch

I had so much fun taking this picture.  I had to be quick because the pumpkin kept falling which Joshua thought was the funniest thing.  Then when I removed the small pumpkin he kept looking at the two bigger ones on the side and was smiling away.  I wonder what he was thinking?

Annual Start Lighting
Every year for the last 76 years our town has held a fun Star Lighting festival.  There is caroling, reindeer, hot cocoa, and of course it ends with the lighting of the Christmas Star that sits at top of the Rock.  The whole town comes out for this.  It is so much fun and really puts you in the Christmas spirit.  Right before they light the star we say the Pledge of Allegiance, sing the National Anthem, and pray.  This year we were "those people."  You know, the ones with the screaming baby.  Joshua decided that he was hungry and he wanted to eat right-this-second during the national anthem and he continued wailing during the prayer.  We walked to a nearby restaurant so that I could nurse him but right as we walked up they locked the door and put the closed sing in the window.  Joshua's Omah kept mouthing, "can I talk to you." And the guy kept shaking his head no.  I felt a little like Mary at the Inn.  Finally a lady came by and had more sympathy and let us in so I could nurse Baby J.  So thankful for her kindness.  I could not imagine having to have nursed him out in in the 40 degree weather.

Joshua's Half B-day Celebration
We had a little half b-day get together to celebrate Joshua's first 6 months of life.  We served half sandwiches, baby carrots, and half a cake of course.  We also watched a picture slide show.  Then everyone brought a half card with a special memory of Joshua to share written inside.  It was a fun time celebrating our sweet baby boy!
"That 1/2 b-day cake looks yummy Omah!"

Happy Thanksgiving
We hosted Thanksgiving at our house this year.  Early that morning Daniel and Uncle Andrew played in the Church's annual Turkey Bowl and they took second place!  Then we enjoyed a delicious feast with family.  We have so much to be thankful for especially our sweet healthy baby boy.

This is our new Thanksgiving tablecloth.  Each year we will add each of our kids turkey hand print.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Joshua says he can't wait to have some turkey next year.
Last but not least, here are some of my favorite pictures from this past month.

We know that texting and driving is illegal but what about thumb sucking and driving?

Then and Now

WOW! How time flies!  I can hardly believe Joshua is a half a year old already! He is such a content, easy going, fun, chunky healthy and cuddly baby and we just love him to pieces!
I do not have his 6 month stats to post because his appointment isn't until December but I do know that he is in the 200th percentile for cuteness! Also, his first tooth came in last week; just in time for some turkey (kidding of course).  He was acting fussy one day after a nap which is rare, he usually wakes up talking and happily squealing.  So I stuck my finger in to examine and sure enough I felt a tooth.
Here are some fun comparison pictures from when he was a newborn to now.

From day one he has never minded his car seat as long as he is not in it for a long period of time.

In the beginning Joshua enjoyed tummy time.  So much so that I thought he would sleep better on his tummy.  Then he went through a stage where he hated it.  Now that he can hold himself up longer I think he likes it a lot more.

The swing used to be the only place Joshua would take a nap until about 2 months.  Now, he just tries to climb out of it.

Joshua and his GG (Great Grandma)

Joshua and Daddy did a lot of hanging out in this position when he was a newborn.

Joshua has never really loved or hated taking baths.  I don't think he minds them though.  He just hangs out.

WOW!  I can not believe how tiny he was.  This is where Joshua slept during the night and eventually for naps for the first 3 months (this is when we moved him to his crib for naps and night time sleep).

We have so much fun looking back on old pictures.  It is so neat to see how much he has grown and how much he has changed!.  We always say how big he is but one day we will look back to this stage and say, "He was so tiny."  He is growing like a weed and time is going by way too fast!

Solid food-YUM YUM!

We started Joshua on solid foods today.  I decided a long time ago that I wanted to make his baby food. Believe it or not I have been super excited to start making his food.  I have been doubly excited to use this bad boy…
...my Baby Bullet! (A baby shower gift from my awesome friend!)
We started him out on avocado mixed with breast milk (doesn't that sound delicious) instead of the traditional rice cereal.  At first it was a little weird for this rule follower to go against the grain but I did a lot of research on it and we both felt comfortable with our decision.
He did pretty well.  He was very eager to try it at first but once he got a taste he wasn't so sure.  He had some funny reactions.  His reaction was like we gave him something sour.  After he swallowed a bite we would wait a little bit before giving him another bite.  In between bites he would randomly quiver.  It was like whenever he remembered what had just happened it would make him shudder.
Here are some pictures of his first meal
He has no idea what's coming.

"Oh yea!  Bring that spoon on over here!"

"I got this!"

"On second thought..."

"What was that stuff?"

Next on the menu is sweet potatoes!
