First Tent Camping Experience

Over Labor Day weekend Daniel and Uncle Andrew took Joshua on his first tent camping trip making it Joshua's first father son and uncle camping trip ;)

The camping trip was sort of last minute so we didn't have time to go to the library and get books about camping and I couldn't find any cartoons about camping so we just talked a lot about what it means to go camping.  He was so excited!  A few weeks before their trip Joshua would talk about going camping, sleeping in a tent and going fishing but I don't think he really understood what camping was.  The day before their big trip I was talking to Joshua about camping and I think he was most excited about peeing in the dirt...boys!

When we told him Uncle Andrew was going he kept saying, "Aunt Anna too."  We told him multiple times that this was going to be a trip just for boys.  On their way out Daniel told him they were going to go pick up Uncle Andrew and Joshua, "Uncle Andrew, not Aunt Anna."

Real men camp in tents...and show off their bellies.

Checking out his sleeping quarters.

Testing it out.

Poor dog taking a nap in the tent.

Rumor has it that Joshua really liked the tent and kept saying, "This is our home!"

Before siting in his chair he had to put a pile of rocks in it and then sit.

Speaking of rocks, Daniel said he made a big pile with a bunch of small rocks and said, "This is a big Castle Rock."  For those of you that don't know, The Castle Rock he is referring to is the big hiking rock in our town which is why our town is named Castle Rock.

Enjoying some marshmallows.

How did he sleep you ask?  Here is the report I got.  Around his normal bedtime (7pm) he started showing signs of being tired (holding poor dog and sucking his thumb) then all of a sudden he got a 2nd wind and Daddy let him stay up and enjoy the camp fire, marshmallows, and his flashlight until 9.  That is by far the latest he has ever stayed up! Daniel said it took him about 1 hour for him to go to sleep.  Daniel said he was so wired, didn't want to lay down, kept talking, asking questions and singing songs.  Daniel tried massaging his head to relax him. When Daniel would start to doze off massaging his head Joshua would remind him "more doing this" as he made massaging motions.  After finally falling asleep he woke up sometime during the night asking "What is Uncle Andrew doing?" and wanting to get up and play but he went back to sleep fairly quickly after Daddy told him it wasn't time to get up yet.

I love how he is looking up at his Uncle Andrew.

Daddy and his boy.  Notice how they are sitting the same way?!

There was a cactus by their site and Joshua kept wanting to go look at it.  He sometimes referred to it as the "owie."

Taking Poor Dog to see the cactus.

"See Poor Dog?  Don't touch it, you will get an owie,"

Feeding the ducks.  Daniel said a duck ate the bread straight out of his hand and got Joshua's finger a little.  Joshua said, "He bite me a little bit."

On their way home.

15 minutes into their drive home and he was out and it was even noon.  He was one tired little boy. He was still sleeping when they dropped Uncle Andrew off so when he woke up he asked, "Where did Uncle Andrew go?" Daniel texted me this picture with the caption, "He Gone!"  Yes, we are Duck Dynasty fans ;)

When they got home the first thing he said to me was, "Hi Mommy, where's Kayla?"  Sweet brother missed his sister.

When Daniel put Joshua to bed their first night home Joshua said, "I miss somebody."  Daniel asked, "Who do you miss?"  He said, "I miss Uncle Andrew!"  AWE!

The other day Joshua was telling me about their camping trip.  I asked him if he wanted to go camping again and he said, "yea, right now!"  They certainly had a blast and made a lot of good memories.  Here's to many more Father/Son/Uncle/and hopefully some cousins camping trips.
